The assembly has an annular cage (5) with a truncated conical shaped annular body (50) defining cells in which conical rollers (4) are housed. The rollers are maintained between the cage and one of inner and outer rings (2, 19). The cage has an annular deflector (14) arranged on the body to define impedance loss with an assembling face of one of the rings. The deflector has an axial retaining unit i.e. annular extension, cooperating with the assembling face to axially retain the cage on the ring. The deflector is connected to the body by an association unit i.e. elastic hook forming elements. An independent claim is also included for a method for mounting a conical roller bearing assembly.
