A light emitting diode having improved luminous efficiency is provided to improve the luminous efficiency of the light emitting diode by forming a sub-mount substrate having a light emitting chip in an upper part of a groove. The groove(230) is formed on a substrate(210). The sub mount substrate(240) is formed in the partial region of groove. The light emitting diode(250) is mounted on the sub mount substrate. The molding unit(280) molds the light emitting diode. The reflector(260) is arranged in the top of the substrate in order to surround the light emitting diode. The sub mount substrate is made of a transparent material. The groove is filled with the molding unit or the air.
