A spreader control system for a container crane and a method thereof are provided to maximize productivity by improving cargo working speed using a container crane. A spreader control system for a container crane comprises a first sheave unit(120) which comprises four sheaves fixed to the top of the spreader, a second sheave unit(130) which supports up and down movement of each sheave of the first sheave unit, a hydraulic cylinder(140) which is anchored in the second sheave unit so that one side of the second sheave unit reciprocates in a specific direction, and a controller which controls the piston of the hydraulic cylinder.
