PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive color image forming apparatus capable of economizing a coloring material while preventing the degradation of output image quality to provide output images of high quality over a long period of time by appropriately discharging the degraded coloring material in a developing means. SOLUTION: The color image forming apparatus comprises a detecting means for detecting chromaticity of an image formed on a recording medium by an image forming part, and carries out coloring material discharge of forcibly consuming the coloring material in the developing means based on the detected result of the detecting means.
