PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a user-friendly image recording and reproducing device when transmitting image data recorded on media to external equipment, and to provide a transmitting method. SOLUTION: A reproduction routing information on transmitting image data edited by a user is recorded in a recording medium. The reproduction routing information read out from the recording medium is selected when transmitting data, and according to the selected data the image data are reproduced to transmit them to the external equipment. The reproduction routing information includes a transmitting event information on a transmitting date, a destination and the like; and information associated with the signal format of the image data to be transmitted.
