An improved bitewing x-ray film holder for interproximal radiographic analysis is provided. The device includes a dental medium holder for placement of a dental x-ray imaging medium (electronic sensor or film) and a bite block containing an alignment guide to aid the dental professional in achieving a perpendicular or near perpendicular relationship of the x-ray medium to the interproximal region of clenched maxilliary and mandibular teeth. The bite block is preferably molded from a single piece of polyethylene (a thermoplastic) to ensure that the x-rays pass unhindered therethrough since x-rays are required to penetrate the bite block. The bite block is joined to a mid-region of the so that the bite block rests along the occlusal plane of the arch of the teeth being radiographed. The device also includes a guide rod which is detachably adapted to the bite block and a sighting ring adapted to a x-ray nose cone of a x-ray unit. When the bite block is positioned so that the alignment guide is adjacent to the clenched buccal surfaces of the maxilliary and mandibular teeth, the dental imaging medium will be positioned perpendicular or near perpendicular to the interproximal region of the tooth or teeth to be examined. A plurality of transverse ridges adjacent to the alignment guide limits the potential movement of the film holder after it has been aligned, thereby enabling the dental professional to align the aiming ring and consequently the nose cone of the x-ray unit, whereby the x-ray beam is projected from the nose cone to capture the interproximal relationship of the teeth being examined onto the dental x-ray medium.
