High-pressure water jet cutting techniques generate numerous handling problems both for plates to be cut and for cut parts. These problems can be solved by the device of the invention. The device includes a plurality of wires (108) tensioned at a predetermined tension force above a plate (104) to be cut. The wires intercept a jet (107) cutting the plate. This interception results in a micro-fastener holding the cut part to the plate. This micro-fastener can be easily broken. The plurality of wires also prevents the boiling effect of water in a cutting pool, the boiling resulting from the impact of the water jet into the pool.
