A granular sensation is reduced while suppressing concentration variations caused by the deviation between planes. When recording is performed at a pixel by M times of relative scanning of a recording head or relative scanning of M pieces of recording heads with respect to a recording medium, M pieces of multiple-valued image data are generated according to the number of divisions or a distribution ratio matched to the gradation value of the pixel, each of the M pieces of multiple-valued image data is quantized, and the recording is performed on the basis of the quantized pixel data. This enables the reduction of a delay in dot generation in a highlight section or of the deterioration of the granular sensation and the recording of an image resistant to the concentration variations.
