PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a germanium containing photosensitive resin having a high refractive index as well as a germanium containing photosensitive resin composition, and also to provide a refractive index control method by their photobleaching. SOLUTION: Control of a refractive index is performed by electromagnetic irradiation on the germanium containing photosensitive resin having Ge-Ge bond as the main chain and on a composition of such resin and a general purpose resin. The side chain combined with the main chain is a group each independently selected from a group comprising hydrogen, halogen, aliphatic hydrocarbon group, alicyclic hydrocarbon group, and aromatic hydrocarbon group, or is a group each independently selected from a group comprising a polymer chain forming Ge-Ge bond, hydrogen, halogen, aliphatic hydrocarbon group, alicyclic hydrocarbon group, and aromatic hydrocarbon group.
