PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and secure method whereby solid deposition and clogging incidental thereto can be minimized, whereas the obtained sulfuric acid formed from nitration can be concentrated again at small energy consumption. SOLUTION: The method is a continuous method for producing nitrobenzene by adiabatically nitrating benzene with a sulfuric acid/nitric acid mixture, wherein the total of the concentration of metal ions which form a slightly soluble metal sulfate in the reaction zone is below 900 mg/L based on the volume of the water phase containing sulfuric acid.
