<p>A control system for a domestic appliance (for example, a microwave oven), the domestic appliance being adapted to perform a plurality of independent processes (e.g., a door opening process for the door of the appliance, providing visual indications, e.g. via LEDs, that power to the appliance is ON. Main cooking processes) the control system comprising: processing circuitry; a latching circuit, coupled to the processing circuitry, the latching circuit including a plurality of inputs, the plurality of inputs including a first input adapted to be coupled to a first switch and a second input adapted to be coupled to a second switch; wherein the processing circuitry is operable (A) following detection of an ON signal at a primary output S1 of the latching circuit, indicating that the first switch has been pressed, (i) beginning one or more immediate processes; and/or (B) following detection of an ON signal at a secondary output S2 of the latching circuit, indicating that the second switch has been pressed, (i) beginning one or more temporary processes. Preferably, the latching includes an OFF buffer, for buffering ON/OFF signals from a user via the first input and having a buffer output (HI, LOW) indicating if the status of the appliance is OFF or ON, and wherein the processing circuit is alternatively or additionally operable for (C) upon detecting that the buffer output is OFF, (i) beginning intermediate processes, and (ii) determining whether any essential processes are running. Also disclosed is a domestic appliance incorporating the control system, said first and second switches and means for providing visual indications to a user.</p> |
