<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pharmaceutical agent for treating disorders of iron homeostasis. <P>SOLUTION: A complete defect in hepcidin expression shows the induction of progressive tissue iron overload in mice. Also, transgenic mice expressing hepcidin under regulation of a compositional liver-specific promotor are anaemic. Therefore, antisense RNA or DNA, or lipozyme likely inhibiting activity or expression of hepcidin can be used for treating anaemia associated with chronic diseases. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
