PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce merits by simplifying, for example, accuracy and an adjusting process, and to obtain good image quality, such as an image free from stripe-uneven, having good gradation. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an image carrier; a main scanning means; a sub scanning means; an irradiating position adjusting means; and an uneven density mitigating means. The image carrier is configured to carry an electrostatic latent image formed with irradiating light from a light-emitting element. The main scanning means is configured to scan the image with the irradiating light in the main scanning direction of the image carrier. The sub scanning means is configured to move the light receiving surface of the image carrier in the sub scanning direction. The irradiating position adjusting means is configured to adjust the irradiating position by selectively switching the light-emitting elements during a single scanning period so that the irradiating position of the irradiating light in the sub scanning direction may be within the error range. The uneven density mitigating means is configured to mitigate the uneven density that may be possibly generated on the image carrier before/after switching by correcting the timing of switching the light-emitting elements in accordance with density information about an image to be formed.
