PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use the functions of a portable navigation unit effectively, and then to improve convenience effectively. SOLUTION: The vehicle navigation apparatus comprises: a display unit 1 installed in a vehicle; the portable navigation unit 3 which is connected to the display unit 1 through a connecting means 2 and is portable by an occupant; a connection determination means 4 for determining whether or not the portable navigation unit 3 is connected to the display unit 1; and a display control means 5 for performing control to display navigation data output from the portable navigation unit 3 on the display unit 1 when it is determined by the connection determination means 4 that the portable navigation unit 3 is connected to the display unit 1.
