A backlight unit and a liquid display device for improving the light concentration/luminance uniformity are provided to reduce the thickness of the backlight unit by forming a plurality of prism patterns. A plurality of lamps(130) supplies an LC panel controlling light transmission according to the inputted video signal and indicates the image. A diffusion plate(140) includes a plurality of prism patterns(160) including an inverted triangular shape to a rear side. The diffusing plate condenses the light which is income from lamp to the entire area of the liquid crystal panel. An optical sheet is arranged on the diffusing plate. The diffusing plate is formed with one or more materials among the material of PC(polycarbonate), PMMA(Polymethly Metha Acrylate), and PET(polyethylene). |
