PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane separation apparatus capable of preventing aeration exceeding a predetermined level for the purpose of solving the problem that a membrane separation apparatus for sewage employing aeration through an aeration pipe to execute a function of cleaning an membrane element and supply microorganisms with oxygen may violently oscillate the membrane element through excessively intensive aeration to cause damage on the membrane.

SOLUTION: The membrane separation apparatus is equipped with a pressure relief line 50 installed at a place excluding a place below its element block 112 which is constituted of a plurality of membrane elements disposed parallel to each other, and thereby excessive air is vented from the pressure relief line 50 if the pressure in its aeration pipe 122 or in a pipe in communication therewith exceeds a predetermined level so as not to discharge the excessive air for aeration.
