PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet alignment device capable of enhancing the productivity without disturbing the alignment state of paper sheets. SOLUTION: A paper sheet entering a carry-in port 205 from an image forming device (not shown) is conveyed by conveying roller pairs 207, and discharged onto a staple tray 401 by paper discharge roller pairs 208. The discharged paper sheets are aligned by a jogger fence, a return roller 230 or the like, and discharged onto a paper discharge tray 301 by a discharging claw 430. A control unit (not shown) changes the operation start timing of an alignment means (the jogger fence, the return roller) according to the position of the sheet during the conveyance by the conveying roller pairs 207 or during the return operation on the staple tray 401, and the operational state of the discharging claw 430.
