PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate storage processing of a file including main image data and sub-image data. SOLUTION: Prior to generating the file including the main image data and the sub-image data from a picked-up image, an imaging apparatus 1 sets the number of sheets of sub-images to be included in the file (step SA2). A main image header 101 is then generated to which a sub-image identification IFD setting region corresponding to the set number of sub-images is set (step SA3). When a recording instruction is detected thereafter (step SA5→Yes), main image data and sub-image data are generated and the sub-image identification IFD setting region is modified (steps SA6-SA8). When sub-image data are generated for the set number or a filing instruction is detected, the file is generated and recorded in an image recording unit 8 (steps SA9-SA11).
