PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a capacity of a work memory (volatile memory) mounted on an imaging apparatus. SOLUTION: An image pickup device is provided with: an imaging element 3 for converting an optical image of a subject into an electric signal; a work memory (volatile memory) 10 of a smaller memory capacity than a data amount equivalent to the number of pixels mounted by the imaging element 3; image processing means 11 and 12 for performing image processing to the imaging data of the imaging element 3 on the memory 10; and a plurality of non-volatile memories 16 and 17 for storing subject image data after image processing. Every time when receiving imaging data output from the imaging element 3, the imaging data are divided into a plurality of data, the respective divided data are stored in the non-volatile memories 16 and 17 in order, and imaging data of one picture are stored in the non-volatile memories 16 and 17. Then, imaging data every part among that of one picture are read to the work memory 10 from the non-volatile memories 16 and 17, and the subject image data after image processing are recorded in one of the non-volatile memories 16 and 17.
