A prepaid electronic wattmeter and an operating method thereof are provided to remove unnecessary steps such as inspection of a meter or receipt etc by implementing a progressive charging system of a power supply company without a separate communication device. A light-communication part(120) receives a cord in which an advance payment is included through wireless communication. An arithmetic and control part(180) stores the advance payment which is included in the cord inputted through the light-communication part in a memory. Electric charges are calculated in the advance payment based on a progressive charging system according to use of electricity. A local area wireless communication part(130) updates the progressive charging system, or receives and selects a specific progressive charging system by performing the local area wireless communication. |
