A luminance correction method for photographing image for the use of video calling is provided to show a natural corrected image of the user to calling party. A video phone receives video data from a camera(1100). An area detection and tracing unit detects a face area in a photographic image(1200). A brightness correction unit receives luminance values from memory(1300). A media processor receives and encodes video data(1500). A display device indicates the correction image in which luminance is corrected(1700).
