PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treatment method for staple fiber, capable of applying sufficient reforming by surface treatment to staple fiber and decreasing loss of a treating liquid therefor. SOLUTION: The surface treatment method for staple fiber uses a device equipped with a fluidized bed type dryer chamber housing the subject and drying with hot air introduced from the lower side while the subject blown up, and a spray nozzle for spraying a treating liquid in the fluidized bed type dryer chamber, and comprises throwing staple fiber lumps in the fluidized bed type dryer chamber, spraying a surface reforming liquid from the spray nozzle while the hot air blown in the fluidized bed type dryer chamber, and holding the staple fiber lumps in the fluidized bed-type dryer chamber for a sufficient time for making each staple fiber dry, which staple fiber comprises the staple fiber lumps thrown therein.
