The variable transmission ratio mechanism (5) coaxially interconnects a first shaft (11) connected to a steering member and a second shaft (12) connected to a steering mechanism. The motor (23) for the variable transmission ratio mechanism is placed coaxially with the first and second shafts (11, 12) in order to drive the variable transmission ratio mechanism (5). The motor (23) includes a tubular rotor (231), and a receiving space (90) is defined on the inside radially of a rotor core (85) of the rotor (231). At least a part of a torque sensor (44) is placed in the receiving space (90). The structure reduces the overall length of the vehicle steering device.</p>
