PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal device, information communication method, and program to be executed by portable terminal device with which an operational burden is reduced and information processing can be efficiently performed by applying an appropriate communication technology in accordance with a communication environment or a kind of data. SOLUTION: The portable terminal device includes: a first communication means which transmits communication setting information for establishing communication by a second communication means and setting information for processing on substance information containing a document or an image, to be transmitted by the second communication means to an information processing apparatus, when the information processing apparatus is present in a communication area of the first communicating means; the second communicating means which establishes communication with the information processing apparatus on the basis of the communication setting information transmitted by the first communication means, and transmits the substance information to the information processing apparatus; an input accepting means which accepts the input of a setting information transmitting instruction; and a determining means which determines which of communication by the first communication means or a communication by the second communication means is possible.
