PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stereo camera device that can detect objects depending on a driving environment with the capability of suppressing a load on image processing. SOLUTION: An in-vehicle camera unit 1 includes: a plurality of in-vehicle cameras 4a and 4b; an image correction part 31 which performs the correction of picked-up images; a parallax calculating part 32 which calculates parallax being the amount of dislocation between right and left images; and an image recognition part 33 which carries out image recognition processing using both the picked-up image and the calculated parallax, or either of them; and in addition, a processing area determining part 30. The processing area determining part 30 determines the image area to be processed and a reduction ratio differently depending on the driving environment of the vehicle. By using the image area and the reduction ratio determined by the processing area determining part, the image correction part 31 applies correction to the image, the parallax calculating part 32 calculates parallax, and the image recognition part 33 carries out the processing of image recognition.
