PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a xanthine derivative which is effective for the prevention or treatment for sleep disorder. SOLUTION: This medicine contains a xanthine derivative represented by formula (I) [wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, and R<SP>3</SP>each independently represents a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, etc.; R<SP>4</SP>represents a cycloalkyl group, -(CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>n</SB>-R<SP>5</SP>(R<SP>5</SP>represents a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group etc., and n represents an integer of 0-4), X<SP>1</SP>and X<SP>2</SP>each independently represents O or S], [e.g. (E)-8-(3,4-dimethoxystyryl)-1,3-diethyl-7-methylxanthine etc.] or pharmacologically permissible its salt as an effective component, and is effective for the prevention or treatment of sleep disorders such as narcolepsy, recurrent hypersomnia, circadian rhythm sleep disorder, etc. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
