PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image-forming device capable of realizing a suitable carriage drive control even if an error is generated in an encoder. SOLUTION: In the image-forming device, an image is recorded on a recording paper by intermittently moving the recording paper in a sub scan direction while reciprocating a carriage mounting a recording head thereon in a main scan direction, and a pulse encoder for generating pulses in accordance with a movement of the carriage and a carriage drive control means for driving the carriage to be accelerated, at a constant speed and decelerated are provided. An error of the pulse encoder is detected by investigating a change of an output interval of the pulses from the pulse encoder during driving the carriage acceleratedly in a predetermined main scan region, and the main scan region in which the error is detected is not allowed to be included in an acceleration region and a deceleration region of the carriage drive control means.
