PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an element substrate which reduces variation of an energy cast into each heater by supplying a constant current to each heater, and on the other hand, can change the energy cast into each heater in many steps. SOLUTION: The element substrate has a plurality of recording elements and a constant current source which generates the constant current used for driving the plurality of recording elements. Also the element substrate has a holding circuit which holds inputting a plurality of current value determining data with mutually different current values from outside that determine current values of the constant current, and a selecting circuit which selects the current value determining data from the plurality of current value determining data held by the holding circuit. The constant current source switches the current value of the constant current used for driving the plurality of recording elements according to the current value determining data selected by the selecting circuit.
