PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems of conventional method wherein catalysts formed mainly of expensive rare elements to reduce NOx contained in the exhaust gas of diesel engines, and processes requiring complicated controls prevail at present, the sulfur content of a fuel increases the PM of the exhaust gas or obstructs catalytic action, and therefore, if these problems are not solved, the method will be impossible technically and due to the exhaustion of resources in the future.
SOLUTION: In this method of directly reducing nitrogen gas without a catalyst, the exhaust gas and hydrocarbon, desirably acetylene, is introduced, while stirring, into filled layer of lumps and particles of a composite alloy made of manganese, iron, and a carbide thereof such as high carbon ferromanganese or a honeycomb structural carrier having an internal surface coated with the powder thereof. When the temperature of the exhaust gas is 200°C or higher, approximately 90% of the NOx contained in the exhaust gas can be directly reduced and decomposed without a catalyst.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
|
