<PICT:0686294/III/1> In the reactivation of solid adsorbent, e.g. charcoal, by passing it through a zone in which the temperature progressively increases, the major portion (e.g. 60-80 per cent) of the adsorbent is removed at an intermediate section of the zone, and only a minor portion passes through the high temperature section. As shown, charcoal which has been used in a hydrocarbon separation process is introduced at 3 into vessel 1 and moves in countercurrent to hot gases, e.g. flue gases at 2000 DEG -2500 DEG F, introduced at 4. Most of the charcoal is removed through pipe 9, and the remainder through pipe 12. The temperature at the top of the vessel 1 may be 400 DEG -700 DEG F, at the bottom 1100 DEG -1500 DEG F, and in the intermediate section 700 DEG -1100 DEG F. The adsorbent may he in the fluidized state.
|
