PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing lactic acid, comprising a step of removing a coloring component before occurrence of coloring in order to solve a problem in which lactic acid is colored by a Maillard reaction when heating a lactic acid solution by operation such as distillation without removing the coloring component when separating and refining lactic acid from a fermented culture solution after finishing fermentation in fermentation of lactic acid by a microorganism. SOLUTION: In the method for refining lactic acid, coloring component can effectively be separated and removed by passing a culture solution of lactic acid fermented by a microorganism through a nano filter and filtering the solution.
