PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recorder capable of capable of avoiding disadvantage due to stain of a medium detecting section and dispensing with an exclusive drive source for cleaning the medium detecting section, a cleaning method by the recorder and a program. SOLUTION: A restoring section 6 engages with a transmitting section 4 when cleaning a nozzle of an image recording section 5. The moving action is transmitted to the transmitting section 4, and a cleaning section 15 of the transmitting section 4 cleans the medium detecting section 3 when the restoring section 6 is moved for cleaning.
