Class 20(iii) [Also in Group XXV] A draught &c. excluding strip is attached to a vehicle body or door by sheet metal clips each formed from a single strip of metal and comprising a substantially flat body part a adapted to fit against the base of the strip, and having cranked prongs b at opposite ends of one face to be passed through the base of the strip and clinched over, and on stem c projecting from the other face formed by folding a tongue which is integral with the body, the stem being of tapered outline with a neck d adjacent the body and with only one limb attached to the body. The clip is formed from a blank of T outline and the head of the T forming the body of the clip has two parallel slits in line with the sides of the stem of the T. The stem of the T together with the body portion is bent as shown to form the neck d and V-shaped' portion c, and the free end is inclined inwardly to terminate in the gap e formed by the cut away portion of the body. The free edges of the clip may be curved as at f to locate against one side of the base of the strip. The weather strip has a compressible pile g on a fabric strip h mounted on a metal base j with rolled edges k which retain the edges of the material. A thin cover strip l of stainless steel may be folded round the exposed edges of the base. The prongs b are forced through spaced holes or slots m in the base j and through the fabric hand clinched over as at n. Alternatively the prongs may be forced through the base and clinched over in a single operation, or passed through transverse slots if these exist in the base of the strip. The holes in the door or the body are spaced as the clips, and of a diameter less than the maximum transverse dimension of the stem c but slightly greater than the dimension of the neck d. The strips and clips may be supplied separately.</p> |
