PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient method of preparing a composition of geometrical isomers of an olefin compound at an extremely high recovery rate capable of increasing the concentration of its trans-isomer to a level unachievable by a prior art isomerization method, of practically treating a relatively unstable aliphatic unsaturated olefin compound as well, and of treating unlimited amount of an olefin compound. SOLUTION: The method of preparing a composition of geometrical isomers of an olefin compound is characterized by crystallizing a portion of a mixture of trans/cis isomers of an aliphatic straight-chain unsaturated olefin compound and subsequently removing the uncrystallized liquid by decantation.
