PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rope steady brace of an elevator capable of allowing a connection part of a rope and a car to be adequately passed through a rope clamping member without generating any noise or vibrations. SOLUTION: The rope steady brace comprises a fixed frame 22 having an open part in a part thereof, and a movable frame 23 which is turnably provided on the fixed frame 22 to open/close the open part 21 by its turning operation, and a clamping member 20 for bracing the vibration by surrounding a main rope 9 of the elevator by the fixed frame 22 and the movable frame 23 is provided on a guide rail 2 of the car. The movable frame 23 is driven by a motor 31 and turned. When the car approaches the clamping member 20, the approach is detected by a detection sensor 34a or 34b. Based on the detection, the movable frame 23 is turned by the drive of the motor 31, the open part 21 of the fixed frame 22 is opened.
