PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength conversion element that uses pseudo-phase alignment for generating a coherent light, in a visible to deep-ultraviolet ray zones having a wavelengths range of 500nm to 200nm. SOLUTION: This wavelength conversion element forms a periodical polarization inversion structure for alternating positive and negative polarities at a period (d), expressed by expression (1): d=mλ/[2(n<SB>2ω</SB>-n<SB>ω</SB>)] (where m is the order of phase alignment,λdenotes the wavelength of incoming light, n<SB>ω</SB>denotes the refractive index of A1N single crystal for the light having frequencyω, and n<SB>2ω</SB>denotes the refractive index of A1N single crystal of 2ω) in nonlinear optical crystal and outputs a light having a frequency for the incoming light which has frequencyωby using the pseudo-phase alignment.
