Class 86 An apparatus for mixing and like purposes comprises a detachable mixing vessel 1 having a centrally disposed power-driven spindle 25 rotatable within a hollow pillar 20 and coupled at its lower end to a stub shaft 13 which forms the output shaft of a speed-reduction gear within a housing 2 which is in turn mounted upon an electric motor casing so that a driving socket 3 of the reduction gear detachably engages the spindle of the electric motor, a sleeve 26 on the spindle 25 and a sleeve 18 on the stub shaft 13 for sealing the upper and lower ends respectively of the spindle 25 and means at the upper end of the spindle 25 to support detachable mixing or agitating devices rotatable within the vessel. The mixing or agitating device may consist of a whisk having a casing 32 drivingly coupled to a squared upper end of the shaft 25, from which casing depend two diametrically opposed looped members 31 which are given rotation about their own axes as the casing rotates with the shaft 25, by means of gearing enclosed within the casing. This whisk forms the subject of Specification 682,335. An alternative agitator, Fig. 1 (not shown), suitable for cake mixtures consists of two diametrically opposed hooked arms extending downwardly from a hub which fits the squared upper end of the shaft 25, the hooks being shaped so as to approximate closely to the cross-sectional shape of the interior of the vessel. |
