A control apparatus for a cooker and a method thereof are provided to control a burner because whether the display unit normally operates is determined. A control method for a cooker comprises a step(S102) which senses a signal fed back from a first display unit, when a cook start command is input(S101); and a step which selectively controls a burner. In the step sensing the signal fed back, whether the high signal or the low signal is inputted from the first display unit is sensed. The step selectively controlling the burner comprises a step which determines whether the display drive unit is normally driven(S104) and drives the burner(S105) when the signal fed back from the first display unit is the high signal, and a step which determines whether the display drive unit is abnormally driven(S107) and stops the burner(S108) when the signal fed back from the first display unit is the low signal.
