PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To acquire a moving image of a subject of interest (specific subject) in accordance with the intention of a photographer even without being concentrated on photographing operation so much. SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus (1) includes: an image sensor to output a signal representing an optical image of an object to be taken through photographing; a specific subject detection section (14) which sequentially acquires a frame image based on the output signals from the image sensor and detects a position, on the frame image, of a specific subject included in the object to be taken based on an image signal of the frame image; a segmentation section (15) which sets a segmentation area smaller than an entire region of the frame image within the frame image based on the detected position and extracts an image within the segmentation area as a segmentation image; and an image quality compensation section (16) for improving a resolution of the segmentation image.
