PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the wear resistance of a pneumatic tire having a plurality of ribs defined by main grooves extending in its circumferential direction, by suppressing the generation and progress of overall nonuniform wear and eccentric wear of a tread part. SOLUTION: Circumferential thin grooves 13 to 16 extending in the tire circumferential direction are formed on the side of at least one end portion of ribs 21, 22 formed at a tread part 2 of the pneumatic tire 1. The grooves split and define the ribs 21, 22 into auxiliary ribs 21B, 22B on the end-portion side and main ribs 21A, 22A on a center side, where the auxiliary ribs 21B, 22B serve as defense ribs for protecting the main ribs 21A, 22A from wear. The auxiliary ribs 21B, 22B protrude in the radially outward direction of the tire with respect to the tread surfaces of the adjacent main ribs 21A, 22A, wherein a plurality of sipes are formed crossing the auxiliary ribs 21B, 22B in the width direction of the tire.
