The method involves opening or closing a radiator shutter (10) based on external temperature (TA), vehicle speed (v), switching status of a suction fan (30), switching status of an air conditioning system (20) and/or a refrigerant pressure (p) of the system. The shutter is opened when the system is switched-on and the external temperature exceeds a limit temperature (TG1) and the vehicle speed falls below a critical speed (VG) or the fan is switched-on. Switching conditions (S1-S4) are predetermined based on application and/or an application place of an internal combustion engine.
