The device has an exhaust gas line (11) for guiding an exhaust gas to a treatment unit (19) for reduction of nitrogen oxides. A tank (1) is provided for storing a reducing agent (2) i.e. AdBlue(RTM: diesel emissions fluid), or a precursor substance of the reducing agent for using in the treatment unit. An atomizer (3) i.e. ultrasonic atomizer, and a piezoelectric membrane (6) are arranged for production of mist containing the reducing agent or the precursor substance in the area of the tank. The tank is connected with the exhaust gas line by a dosing line (5). An independent claim is also included for a method for after-treatment of exhaust gases for reduction of pollutants obtained in the exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine.
