<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a torque converter which is light, has a reduced overall radial package, does not rattle, and reduces the risk of internal contamination by welding its components primarily on its exterior. <P>SOLUTION: A cover 20, an impeller shell 30 and a backing plate 40 are operatively arranged to rotate about the axis of rotation X-X'. The backing plate 40 is substantially orthogonal with respect to the axis of rotation, the inner diameter of the cover 20 is substantially equal to the inner diameter of the impeller shell 30, and the axial inner annular surface 25 of the cover 20 and the axial inner annular surface 35 of the impeller shell 30 are fixedly attached to the axial outer annular surface 45 of the backing plate 40. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
