PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily prevent cracks generated in a nonlinear resistance element by thermal stresses due to the passage of a lightning current. SOLUTION: This arrestor is formed by stacking a plurality of nonlinear resistance elements 2a, 2b and 2c containing, as the main component, zinc oxide having a nonlinear current-voltage characteristic showing low resistance with respect to a surge voltage and high resistance with respect to a normal voltage to ground, and the outer peripheral surface of the stacked body is covered by an insulation outer-skin body. In the arrestor, metal members 3a, 3b and 3c having conductivity are jointed to stacking surfaces of the respective nonlinear resistance elements 2a, 2b and 2c as crack preventing means 3 for preventing cracks generated by thermal stress by the passage of a lightning current.
