A lamp assembly comprises a lamp body (2) adapted to fit in a lamp fitting, wherein the lamp body (2) comprises at least a LED (4) or LED-like element as light source. The LED (4) is mounted on a base (5) such that the light from the LED (4) is emitted by the lamp body (2) in at least a direction away from a side of the base (5) on which the LED (4) is mounted. The assembly further comprises a light guiding member (1) including at least a deflection wall (7) for deflecting at least a portion of the light exiting from the lamp body (2). In an assembled condition of the lamp assembly the deflection wall (7) projects from a location close to the LED in a direction away from the side of the base (5) on which the LED (4) is mounted.
