The invention relates to an LED chip comprising a device for discharge protection, a so-called ESD protection device (2). Said ESD protection device (2) is integrated into a support (3) on which the semiconductor layer sequence (1) of the LED chip is located and is based on how certain regions of the support (3) are specifically doped. The ESD protection device (2) is e.g. designed as a zener diode that is connected to the semiconductor layer sequence (1) by means of an electrical conductor structure (5).
