The present invention concerns a method and a device for controlling the operation of a base station of a wireless cellular telecommunication network comprising a network server. The network server: transfers a location request message to the base station, receives in response, a certificate originated by a third party, checks the validity of the certificate, obtains information representative of the location of the base station, checks if the base station is located in a given geographical area, transfers a command control message enabling the base station to transfer radio signals if the certificate is valid and if the base station is located in the given geographical area.
