PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus that ensure precise arrangement of optical components and acquires image data, and to provide a method of manufacturing the image reading apparatus. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus includes: a case 1 of a long rectangular form which accommodates a light source 6, a plurality of light receiving elements 5 arranged along a main scanning direction, and light components 2, 3, an opening 1a extending along the main scanning direction; and a glass cover 7 fixed in the opening 1a. The image reading apparatus also includes: catching planes 11 of the opening 1a pasted inside of the glass cover 7 using resin 8, and sidewall planes 12 which stand from the catching planes 11, and face side edges of the glass cover 7. The manufacturing method carries out processing to divide the inside of the glass cover 7 into bonding regions 7a to paste with the catching planes 11 and a non-bonding region 7b of other from the bonding regions, and repel the resin 8 from the non-bonding region 7b than the bonding regions 7a before processing to fix the glass cover 7 in the opening 1a.
