Disclosed is an organic electroluminescent device comprising an anode (10), a cathode (70), a light-emitting layer (40) arranged between the anode (10) and the cathode (70) and composed of at least an organic compound, two or more layers arranged in a hole injection/transport region which is between the anode (10) and the light-emitting layer (40), and one or more layers arranged in an electron injection/transport region which is between the light-emitting layer (40) and the cathode (70). One layer in the hole injection/transport region, which is in contact with the light-emitting layer (40) contains an aromatic amine derivative having a carbazole skeleton, and one layer in the hole injection/transport region other than the layer in contact with the light-emitting layer (40) contains one or more materials selected from the group consisting of thiophene derivatives, tricyclic or higher cyclic fused aromatic derivatives, amine derivatives (excluding the compounds represented by Formula (A)), conductive polymers, CFx, CuPc, transition metal oxides, fullerenes and acceptor materials. The layers in the electron injection/transport region contain a benzimidazole derivative.
