PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize so that the maximum voltage applicable to liquid crystal can be enhanced when an inexpensive middle breakdown strength IC is used since the display quality of liquid crystal and the cost reduction of a driving IC have reciprocal respects to each other. SOLUTION: In the active matrix device, a switch circuit for writing a desired potential to a data line 202 comprises an n-channel type transistor and a p-channel type transistor, wherein a common potential is driven so as to be inverted in a predetermined period, either one side of the n-channel type transistor and the p-channel type transistor constituting the switch circuit is selected in accordance with the common potential and the desired potential is written to the data line 202.
